Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by her mother, her grandmother, as well as her godparents. Her father abandoned her family. When she was a young girl Ford experienced anxiety related to an obsessional-compulsive disorder. Ford's interest in acting began as a child. She joined at the National Youth Theatre. After being accepted at the Sylvia Young Theatre School for only a few days however, Ford realised that this was not the best location for her. Ford was then able to apply to be a student for the Central School of Speech and Drama and received an acceptance on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's fellow students. He would go on to have recurring roles as Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford's first appearance on television was an episode in 1991 called Surgical Spirit. By the time she graduated, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate was a part of such television shows like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly as well as London Burning. Tate's regular involvement in the theatre brought her into The Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 season. Tate became famous for her stand-up comedy, which were added to Tate's show in the year 1996.
